ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA fluidized-bed catalyst is disclosed for the production ofsynthetic natural gas by the methanization of carbon monoxide. The catalystwhen unreduced contains nickel oxide on a carrier material, which is resist-ant to temperature changes, and a hydraulic cement. The catalyst is obtainedby comprising a composition comprising a carrier material and nickel oxide inadmixture with hydraulic cement as binder in the wetted condition at apressure above 1600 kp/cm2 into a formed body, calcining the so-compressedformed body, curing the so-calcined formed body by treatment with water orsteam, recalcining the so-cured formed body and comminuting the same andrecovering a comminuted material having a particle size fraction rangingfrom 40 to 350 µ,
