A contraceptive plug having a double mechanical and spermicide action comprising a synthetic sponge element (2) of a cellular material impregnated with a spermicide composition, characterised in that the sponge material comprises partly open cells which are connected to one another without however forming a coherent system of passageways and the spermicide composition is mixed with a delaying medium.
