The piston rod of a membrane cylinder which actuates under spring pressure has also the function of a valve spindle. It has a wedge shaped piston with two circular sealing faces attached to its free end. The valve body has an inlet port which is in line with the valve spindle. Two outlet ports, in line with one another are located at right angle with the inlet port. When the wedge shaped piston is in the closed position, the fluid from the inlet port is able to pressurize the thick end of the wedge shaped piston, thus keeping it closed even if the spring pressure on the valve spindle is removed.
