摘要
Treatment of woven and knitted fabrics of synthetic and opt. natural fibres to increase the whiteness and prevent and reduce greying is carried out with an aq. liquor contg. water-soluble film-forming binder(s) (I), pigment(s) (IIA) and/or highly disperse amorphous silica (IIB) and opt. optical whitener, softener, wetting agent, perfume and/or dyestuff. Treatment is carried out at ambient or somewhat higher temp., esp. in a washing machine, and drying at the same temp. to form a coating which can be washed out. The novel feature is that a water-soluble electrolyte (III) is added to the liquor. (III) are salts or acids with di- or tri-valent anions and/or bases and/or salts or bases with di- or tri-valent cations, esp. boric acid, its salts, e.g. borax, Al sulphate or CaCl2, esp. a mixt. of borax and Al sulphate. The (III) concn. in the liquor is 0.01-0.50 (0.05-0.20) (wt.)%, whilst the amts. of the other additives is 0.1-0.5% (I), 0.02-0.1% (IIA) and 0.01-0.1% (IIB). The treatment is esp. useful for materials based on polyester and polyacrylonitrile fibres and their mixts. with natural fibres, e.g. curtains. The addn. of (III) allows pptn. of all the other additives from greater dilution.
