The afterburner has concentric cylinders arranged to give an even transfer of heat between the combustion products and incoming air and exhaust gases. The engine exhaust and secondary combustion air enter through concentric header chambers (15,12) at one end of the concentric cylinder assembly. A common air inlet (303) brings air for the engine and for the afterburner into an inlet chamber (301). A connection (51) from one side of this takes air into the outer cylinder (91) of the afterburner which leads into the inlet header (12). The engine air (302) is taken from the other side of the inlet chamber (301) through a filter (304) within the chamber.
