The belt worn over clothing has a number of LED's (3) incorporated in the outside surface of the belt (2) supplied from a battery (7) held in a pouch (11) attached to the belt (2). The LED's (3) may be supplied via an electronic circuit (8,9,10) allowing a flashing signal to be provided, with the electrical supply lines (4,5) between the circuit (8,9,10) and the LED's (3) running along the inside of the belt (2) and covered by the belt lining. The LED's (3) may be arranged in lines or in groups.
