The arrangement is for non-destructive testing of electrically conducting materials using the pulse eddy current method and can either produce a direct indication of electrical conductivity and/or magnetic characteristics or can provide signals to a data processing system. The arrangement can be used to locate material defects on and below the surface of the tested object. The arrangement contains a circuit in which a pulse generator, an A-D converter, intermediate memory, and a data processing system are controlled and synchronised by a logical control circuit. The test head energising circuit is operated at the system checking rate to produce current pulses. The output of the test head receiver passes through an analogue amplifier before being digitised and fed to the data processor via the intermediate memory.
