Pressurised gas load switch - has ferromagnetic block exerting field on switching arc which compensates lorentz force

The pressurised gas load switch has a tubular casing (1) containing an axial contact system (9,10), the connection leads (2,3) fitting through the side of the casing (1) at spaced points to form a U-shaped current path (7) within the casing (1). The Lorentz force of the current path is compensated by a ferromagnetic block lying to one side of the contact system (9,10) and attached to the wall of the casing (1) between the two arms of the U-shaped current path (7). Pref. the ferromagnetic block comprises a number of superimposed insulated sheets attached to the inside wall of the casing. The switch can handle large short-circuit currents.
