The machine combines a measured amount of concentrate with soda water. This is supplied from a carbonisation device with a cylindrical press vessel (11) cooled by a refrigeration unit so that a layer of ice (12) is formed around its inside and containing drinking water supplied from an intermediate reservoir (17). A free air path (20) is incorporated between the end of the drinking water line (21) and the intermediate container (17) to prevent water being sucked back. Pref. the water level in the press vessel (11) is held constant via a level monitoring electrode (14) connected in the current supply circuit of a pump (13) between the intermediate container (17) and the press vessel (11). The machine prevents the drinking water line being contaminated.
