A steel container, provided with a granular C-rich adsorbent bed, for water-purification, is protected against corrosion by generating a carbonate-contg. layer on the internal side of the container, acting as cathode. This is achieved by connecting an anode, placed in the adsorbent bed, with a direct current voltage source. The adsorbent-contg. steel container can be used in drinking water processing. The carbonate layer has insulator-like low electron conductivity. Electron flow between C and steel partition and between anode and cathode is prevented. Ion flow between cathode and anode is not hindered, whereby corrosion-protective exchange reactions can proceed on steel surface.
