The chisel comprises a measuring rod (6), which is placed inside an interior tube of the chisel, with a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of the bath. The measuring rod comprises a non-metallic upper part (7) with a larger diameter. The device comprises a cathodic vessel, an anode means, an electrical source for generating direct current between the cathodic vessel and the anode means for extracting molten aluminum from a bath, and an assembly with a chisel (1) for breaking a crust, which forms itself in the area of the anode means during the production. The chisel comprises a measuring rod (6), which is placed inside an interior tube of the chisel, with a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of the bath. The measuring rod comprises a non-metallic upper part (7) with a larger diameter and a small axial extension for fastening the measuring rod on the chisel, and a remaining part with a smaller diameter. The chisel consists of three hollow cylinders (2, 3, 4), of which a first hollow cylinder serves as a jacket and as a bottom area of the chisel in combination with the second hollow cylinder during the second and first cylinders connect with the third hollow cylinder, which forms the interior tube for carrying the measuring rod. An air gap (5) exists between the first and third cylinders. The remaining part of the measuring rod protrudes with a tip over the bottom area of the chisel, where the tip protrudes to 0-50 mm. The interior tube of the chisel consists of steel. The size of the air gap is 1-50 mm with an external diameter of the chisel of 50-150 mm.
