The cooker has several hot plates, each with two heating wires. An extra switch is associated to each hot plate for separate switching of at least one heating wire. This switch is actuatable by a pref. mechanical-switching member, responding to the presence of certain variable or state. The switching member is formed by a crank shaft adjacent to the extra switch. It is stressed by two oppositely acting torsion springs. The longitudinal axis of the shaft is vertical and it upper end, penetrating through the cooker cover, carries a horizontal lever, extending up to the centre of the hot plate. The switching member can be a pin underneath the hot plate which is mounted with a vertical resilience. Each hot plate may be given a vertical movement by guide pins in the respective corner region, being loaded by upwardly-urging compression springs.
