The arrangement is for application of normal and shear loads to specimens in superimposition and is esp. applicable to material testing and/or fracture mechanics and/or stress and strain analysis. The arrangement is capable of applying purely normal or shear forces as well as mixed loads to both plane and structural specimens. The superimposed load is imposed by applying a strain force via a test machine or straining element using two units (1,2) connected Via the specimen. A discontinuous or continuous transition from pure strain to pure shear loading is possible in the central cross-section (AB). This is achieved with optional variation of the components of normal and shear loading and/or stress intensity factors. The loads can be applied statically or dynamically.
