In the Fischer-Tropsch process with synthesis gas on a fixed-bed pptd. catalysts contg. Cu and Fe, the yield of diesel oil is raised and the rate of loss of catalyst activity reduced by raising the operating pressure from about 25 bar to a max. of 100 bar (pref. about 50 bar), and simultaneously reducing the temp. to preserve about the same conversion. The rate of loss of activity can be reduced to less than 0.2% conversion/day by reducing the temp. by 10-30 deg.C. With increasing operating time at the normal operating pressure of about 25 bar, not only is conversion lost, but the proportion of prod. boiling below 200 deg.C, i.e. of non-diesel oil prod., rises. This change of prod. compsn. is considerably reduced by the claimed increase of reaction pressure.
