The invention relates to a sampling method and to an appliance for implementing the method, which involves using a nozzle to shunt off a part-stream of a gas-material stream, forcing the part-stream in free flow into a gas-tight chamber of a cyclone separator, where separation of solid and gas is effected by sedimentation. The excess pressure in the cyclone is then reduced, followed by discharge of the sedimented sample material from the cyclone.
