The collapsible chair-step ladder comprises a pin-jointed folding frame with pivoting and vertically translating leaves. The chair seat leaf subdivides into interspaced tread leaves, and the chair can be folded down into a compact storage form. In the chair form, twin opposed 'A' frames (1, 7, 14 and 2, 6, 13) provide support, with one leg (1, 2) of each frame extending up to support back rest bars (4, 5, 23) and the bars (13, 14) extending forward to support the seat leaf (16, 17). The bars (13, 14) pivot about the rear legs (6, 7)and rest on a bar (3) between the front legs (1, 2). A lower cross-bar (22) forms the first ladder step, and the second ladder step (12) locates beneath the two piece seat leaf (16, 17).
