The vertical axis wind power generator includes a horizontal link (2) mounted around a vertical central shaft (10). The link comprises a three bladed plate, each part of which supports a further parallel vertical shaft (12) at its end. Vanes are mounted on these shafts to rotate about their respective vertical axes. Each outer shaft is linked via gear wheels (3,4) and a universally jointed rod (5,6) to the central shaft so that rotation of the whole assembly is linked to the movement of each blade about its own axis. Output power is derived from a generator (7) attached to the central vertical shaft. The wind mill does not need to be turned into the prevailing wind, since it rotates about an axis perpendicular to the wind velocity.
