The joint is intended for use on remote live wires using an insulating stick to manipulate it by a hook on the end of the stick and an eye or ring bolt on the joint. The clamp has a shoe at the end of a threaded screw passing through a tapped hole in the clamp with a ring nut on the end. The ring nut is held on the screw by a locking plate with a plane face preset by a torque wrench on the ground. The locking plate rests inside a cylindrical housing in the ring nut with a sealing rint between them, the ring being initially offset to allow machining of the housing. A second seal is built into the top of the ring bolt. The screw has a waisted central portion so that if the bolt is screwed beyond the torque limit it turns freely on the unthreaded shaft. A second lock nut on the upper threaded part of the screw and a spring washer on top of the ring bolt ensure that the bolt reengages with its threads when unscrewed.
