Air flow controller for gas or liq. fuel burner - uses thin sheet of stainless steel to block air flow till it is buckled upwards by solenoid placed at edge
The air flow to the burner of a gas or oil heater is cut off during idling periods to reduce heat losses and blocks incoming air if a pressure build up has occurred inside the burner chamber due to fuel leakage. The air flow controller uses a thin (0.4 mm) sheet of stainless steel (15) covering the air entry hole (12) in a thicker steel support sheet (10). The thin sheet is riveted or spot welded to the support sheet along one edge while at the other edge a solenoid (18) moves so as to buckle the thin sheet upwards when air is to be admitted. Provision (21,20) is made to manually lock the magnet armature if required. A spring (16) holds the sheet down when the solenoid is withdrawn.
