An aneroid barometer especially suitable for educational purposes has a display of sensed atmospheric pressure which comprises a dial 28 or other face member containing an elongate aperture 29 and, disposed behind the face member, a marker member e.g. a disc 25 or a tape relatively movable with respect to the face member and having a patch or other area 35 of distinctive appearance thereon, the face member and marker member being arranged so that the proportion of the distinctive area visible through the aperture varies according to the sensed atmospheric pressure to simulate a mercury column. An aneroid barometer with a manually adjustable reference pointer and a digital display operatively connected to the reference pointer is also disclosed. IMAGE
