A turnover dog for turning over a billet (13) moved along a moving beam conveyor (12, 14) is freely pivoted on a pin (27) located below the level of the conveyor and is gravity biased into a position in which a rebate (30) is disposed to receive an on-coming billet. When a billet is located in the recess, further movement of the former results in tilting of the dog and turning over of the billet on to a new face. The pin (27) is so positioned that, during the turning movement, the billet is not lifted off the conveyor but is merely turned about one corner. IMAGE
