PURPOSE:To stabilize melting converter slag by adding the coal ash produced by combustion of caol into the converter slag and decreasing the content of the free lime formed in the slag to a specified value or below. CONSTITUTION:The coal ash formed after combustion of coal is added in the form of powder into melting converter slag or is added thereto after molding into a granular shape to decrease the K value expressed by equation in the converter slag after the addition down to =10. The K value is a parameter that shows the amt. of the free lime formed after the solidification of the converter slag. The coal ash contains SiO2 and Al2O3 which are acidic components in large amt. as essential components. The m.p. thereof is as low as around 1,100 deg.C and the grain size thereof is small; therefore, if the coal ash is added to the melting converter slag, melts thoroughly and reacts well with the free lime, thereby decreasing the same.
