PURPOSE:To maintain erosion at a low level and to stabilize operations by maintaining the flow rate of the gas in the outside pipe of double pipe tuyeres which blow O2 diluted with a less active gas through the inside pipe and a cooling gas through the outside pipe in a specified range. CONSTITUTION:O2 or O2 diluted with a gas having low activity or no activity such as Ar and CO2 is blown through the inside pipe of double pipe tuyeres for blowing under bath surface in a refining furnace. A gas for cooling with the sensible heat thereof or reaction heat or both thereof is blown through the outside pipe. The flow rate F (Nm3/hr) of the gas in the outside pipe is maintained in the range of the equation (Si; the sectional area of the inside pipe mm.2, So; the sectional area of the outside pipe mm.2, DR; the rate of dilution of the gas in the inside pipe, beta; the inverse number ratio of LPG contg. =70% propane having cooling capacity of the sensible heat of the gas in the outside pipe or the reaction heat thereof or the sum of both thereof to the same, O=alpha=0.04).
