CARIES ACTIVATING TEST COMPOSITION FOR CULTIVATING SELECTIVELY STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS

PURPOSE:A test composition having improved selectivity for the cultivation of Streptococcus mutans playing an important role in the course of caries development, particularly in primary caries, capable of showing caries activity by its presence or degree of propagation. CONSTITUTION:A composition obtained by blending distilled water containing tryptose, protease, and peptone as a nitrogen source, potassium primary phosphate, and agar with 0.1-40wt% mannitol as a carbon source, 0.05-0.25wt% phenetyl alcohol and 0.009-0.005wt% sodium trinitride as gowth inhibitors, and bromocresol purple as a color agent, capable of confirming the existence of Streptococcus mutans by its color reaction.
