Agents for regulating the growth of plants are described which correspond to the formula: IMAGE where R1 represents a carboxy radical or a corresponding salt suitable in agriculture, or an alkoxycarbonyl radical, R2 represents an optionally substituted phenyl radical, R3 represents an alkyl radical, and R4 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or halo radical. These compounds can be used in particular for the production of hybrid cereals by induction of male sterility.
