The plastics muff tube is for use with thermally insulated pipes, which consist of an inner pipe, a plastics foam insulating layer and a plastics outer jacket. The inner pipes are welded together and the join covered by the muff tube, with the space between inner pipe and muff tube foam plastics filled. The muff tube is formed by a length of plastics tape, subsequently welded where it meets the outer jacket and at the overlap by an electrically heated roll.
