Process for the mass production of glazed porcelain or earthenware articles

In the mass or serial production of batches of porcelain or earthenware articles that are to be glazed, at least one dummy body made of iron or the like and having the same design is included with each batch of the porcelain or earthenware starting objects. Unlike the clay in the crude starting objects, the material used for this dummy body is suitable for the non-interfering measurement of the thickness of the surface layer by the conventional methods. A glazing mass is applied to the dummy body in the same way and in the same amount as in the case of the crude starting objects. The thickness of the glazing layer applied is determined with a suitable measuring method before the firing of the objects. If the measurement indicates an incorrect layer thickness, it can be quickly remedied, and the re-firing operation, which was previously necessary, thus becomes superfluous.
