ABSTRACTMethod of overlapping the edging passes of universallyrolled shapes such as rails, beams and channels, as wellas devices, rolls, stands and rolling mills to apply themethod.An improved rolling mill for rolling rails fromrail blanks includes an edger stand. The rolls of thisstand are grooved and set to provide specific overlappededging grooves having in common in an overlapped relation-ship a part of their bridging non-active shallow portions,the pass-line of at least one overlapped edging groovebeing transversely offset with respect to the singleuniversal pass-line of at least a universal stand of thesame universal-edger group as the edger stand. The railblanks that are delivered along the single pass-line ofat least a universal stand are deviated laterally towardsan offset pass-line of an overlapped edging groove. Thedeviated rail blanks are taken over and guided into theoffset pass-line of an overlapped edging groove. Therail blanks that are delivered along the offset pass-lineof an overlapped edging groove are deviated towards thenext single pass-line of a next-to-roll stand.
