A freely released mechanism for differential circuit-breakers and the like, which comprises, on one hand, a transmission toggle (1) between a movable actuating element (2) and a driving element (3, 40) actuating, against the action of return means (4), at least one movable contact (5) which cooperates with at least one fixed contact (6), and, on the other hand, an electromagnetic system (20) responsive to a differential or other current and capable, when said current occurs in the closed position, of releasing the toggle (1), which causes the separation of the contacts (5, 6) under the action of said return means (4), this electromagnetic system (20) being provided with a test-button, characterized in that it comprises a locking element (27) which is movable, independently of the test-button, between a position of rest in which it is spaced away from the path travelled through by the armed or stressed toggle (1), and an operative position in which not only does it release the toggle (1) in the open position of the circuit-breaker but places itself in the path travelled through by the released toggle (1) in the event of a release of the mechanism and maintains this toggle (1) in the released condition.
