The sleeve-shaped holder for a paint brush is fixed at the back to the brush handle. The front section of the brush bristles are gripped by the holder near the back ends of the brush. That section of the brush holder adjacent to the front edge (14) gradually tapers towards the front edge. The inner wall (11')of the holder (1) tapers at an angle of two to ten degrees, preferably three to five degrees, in relation to the lengthwise axis (13) of the holder. The inner wall (11') of the holder (1), parallel to the axis of the holder (13) has lengthwise ridges (15) beginning near the front edge (14) of the holder.
