A coupling for a pipe, for example the coolant cleaning system of a pressurised water reactor, can be disengaged to purge the end section from contaminated coolant. The pipe end has an outer thread for a union nut and an inner thread for a plug which is screwed in up to a shoulder. The plug has a cross pin by which a slotted tool can be used to unscrew it, after a T-piece has been attached to the pipe and by the union nut. This allos safe venting of radioactive liquids or gases used as coolant, from the space between the pipe end and nearest step valve.
