The present patent application contains a device for controlling the narrow cross-sections of a radial compressor guide rim for turbo engines, especially gas turbine engines, the radial compressor guide blades having bypass ducts connecting the blade pressure and suction sides together. The invention is characterised by the following essential features: - by means of a slide displaceable parallel to the wall inside each guide blade, the throughflow cross-section of the bypass duct running at an angle to this can be varied or shut off; - as a result of a combined lift-shear movement of the slide the wedge-shaped section formed on its front end can run in its entirety into the bypass duct at the same time tightly closing the duct opening on the blade suction side; - a valve component, by means of which the duct opening on the blade pressure side can be completely tightly closed off or freed, is rotated about a fixed transverse axis solely in the context of the combined lift-shear movement of the slide; - in a first limit position of the slide - bypass "open" - adjoining wall sections of the slide section containing the wedge end and of the valve component are integral parts of a continuously aligned bypass duct wall. In this way the relevant bypass cross-section of the diffusor guide blades can, inter alia, be constantly varied by comparatively simple means and the characteristic curve thereby also be constantly expanded. The contour of the relevant bypass duct and of the diffusor blade itself are maintained at least in the two limit positions "bypass open" and "bypass closed" so that disturbances in the flow either cannot occur or are manifest only to a negligible degree. t
