The invention relates to a device for controlling the adjustment of the pinch rolls before and during starting up in pinch roll units such as those used in wire and small-section rolling mills. The aim and object of the invention is to retain the initially set contact pressures and driving conditions in the event of wear of the pinch rolls by automatic adjustment during operation. The object is achieved by the fact that the bearing chucks (3, 13) in which the pinch roll shafts (2, 12) are mounted are connected to one another by rigid connecting elements (26, 27) via an interposed force-measuring device (26). In order to implement adjustment, the bearing chucks (3, 13) of the pinch roll shafts (2, 12) are arranged in pinch roll stop guides (8, 17), these being connected by means of threaded bushes (9, 18) to an adjusting spindle (19).
