A building is protected against earth tremors by isolating its foundations. A steel plate can be used for this purpose, or alternatively several layers either of the same material or some of different densities, e.g. steel and strong solid plastics. The insulating material can be fixed to the bottom part of the foundation, but not to the top part by any means. Thus any damages caused by faults are not transmitted to the top part or thus to the building.
