Sink component joining machine - used two-phase action of punch rolling flange over and forming half round bead (BR 14.8.79)

The machine joins a wing(4) with a flange angle(5), the edge of the opening in the former being rolled over the sandwich a leg of the latter. A normal flange(3) to the wing edge is treated, being deformed in a continuous two stage process, and including an internal 180 deg. edge roll when completed. A die(9) with a retracting core block(10) centres the annular wing beneath a vertically reciprocating two piece punch. The punch has two active components in the form of annular intersliding pieces(15, 18). An external concave edge(16) of the inner piece(15) first contacts the flange(13) to initiate the roll, eventually being stopped by the die core(10). The outer piece(18) then descends, having an internal edge to a bevelled face(18a), and completing the deformation.
