Anticoagulant heparin muco:polysaccharide fraction - with improved specificity produced by alcohol fractionation of heparin

New mucopolysaccharide fraction obtainable from fractions contg. heparin or heparin components with molecular weights of 2000-50000 is soluble in an az.-ethanolic medium with a titre of 55-61 degrees GL; tends to insolubility in an aq-ethanolic medium with higher alcohol content; is insol. in pure alcohol; and has a ratio of Yin-Wessler titre to USP titre of is not 2 (pref. is not 3, esp. =6). The new fraction has an anticoagulant effect, but it is more selective than heparin in that it acts on a smaller number of coagulation factors (esp. activated factor X), so the risk of hypercoagulability is reduced and the need for patient monitoring is minimised.
