The appts. contains a stand fitted with rails on which a carriage moves. The optical fibre is accurately positioned at one end of the stand. The position of the ends of the fibre is verified by two position measuring systems. A series of measuring benches are placed along the stand. Each bench includes a light emitter and receiver. The light is emitted normally to the longitudinal axis of the stand. The carriage is fitted with two mirrors which transmit the light from one emitter to the fibre and from the fibre to a receiver. A series of measurements is quickly done by moving the carriage from bench to bench.
