The circuit includes electronic components, which are mounted on an insulating substrate. The substrate is placed in a box, which is then filled with a neutral liq. surrounding the components. The liq. is a stable electric insulator, and is pref. a fluorocarbon liq. The box pref. has a lid with a hole through which the liq. can be injected. The hole is then closed by a metal peg sealed by a blob of polymerised epoxy resin. By filling the box or package with the liq., the box and its contents will resist high pressures, esp. at great depths in seawater. Used e.g. in underwater detectors or sensors; in petroleum exploration of seabeds; or for submarine repeaters for optical cables.
