Regulation and safety mechanism for horizontal axis wind turbine - uses automatic adjustment of turbine blade orientation and has pivoted support for turbine so it can be lowered to ground
The wind driven generator converts wind energy to mechanical, electrical or hydraulic energy. The wind turbine combines one or more twisted air-foil blades mounted at the top of a tubular framed pylon. The wind turbine is fitted with a device which automatically orients the blades so their angle of incidence decreases progressively as the turbine accelerates from rest to its normal running speed. The angle of incidence is rapidly increased if the turbine goes over its normal running speed. The turbine is carried on a two part pylon comprising a ground mounted fixed vertical part (21) with a rotating cap at the top supporting two pivoted arms (20) which extend at an angle to the vertical and carry the turbine/generator unit (19). In the event of high wind or for maintenance the arms can be tilted downwards to bring the turbine/generator unit close to the ground.
