Vertical axis wind turbine with variable blade orientation - uses vertical tower to support vertical axis which has vertical blades pivoted from cross arms carried on shaft
Vertical axis wind turbine with variable blade orientation - uses vertical tower to support vertical axis which has vertical blades pivoted from cross arms carried on shaft
The vertical axis wind turbine has a rotor with variable geometry, with the blades (1) fitted with diagonals (2) to prevent torsion, and the blades mounted on supports welded in a cross (4) around the transmission shaft (5). The shaft is stiffened by stays (6) which are clamp both in holes in the arms of the crosses and to each end of the shaft. The wind turbine rotor is contained within the bounds of a polygonal open frame tower with the shaft supported by a sleeve bearing at the top and by tapered roller bearings at the bottom. The blades are pivoted on the ends of the cross arms, and are internally braced to increase their stiffness.
