Machine for removing husks of chestnuts - by holding them in contact first with rotary cutting drum then with rotary beater

The machine comprises a horizontal, cylindrical rotary drum with a series of spaced blades fitted transversely along the exterior circumference of the drum. A conveyor carries the chestnuts along the drum circumference in contact with cutting edges of the blades which cut into the husk. Pref. the band of the conveyor runs adjacent to the upper half of the drum circumference in the arc where the drum surface is rising towards its highest point. After chestnuts have been passed along the surface of the cutter drum they are pref. then passed along the surface of a coaxial beater drum of similar dia. and equipped with circumferentially spaced beaters to detach cut husk. The beater drum pref. comprises two circular end plates with beaters of wire tensioned between the plates. Pref. both cutter drum and beater drum are fixed on a common drive shaft and a single conveyor carries the prod. along both drums' surface. The machine obviates the previous manual task which was tedious and labour intensive as well as being restrictive on output. Prod. quality is enhanced by avoiding the damage of manual knife cuts.
