A grain de-husking machine has a rotating drum (12) with a feed chute (42) at one end, so that the grain passes between fixed serrated beaters (54) and rotating beaters (52) to travel upwards around a bend (60) above them, along a horizontal space (62) between the face of the drum and a screen (64). The husks pass through the screen and fall into a chamber below, while the grain passes down the other end (66) into another chamber below. The drum carries straight and curved beater arms along its face (12) and has further beaters (67) on the delivery end (66). At this end, a chamber (114) is formed between a dished cover (102) which is closed and opened by a locking handle (110).
