The top-opening metal container provides a constant level loading platform, its case comprising two rectangular box section end walls (1) connected by two rails (2) rigidly fixed to a floor (3). The end walls are closed at the top and open at the bottom. The case constitutes a rigid undeformable structure, with the platform spanning two guided (10) frames (4) mounted on rollers (6). The frames are suspended from the top panels of the end walls by means of springs (8), the platform thus dropping when loaded and vice versa. The case may be of a five piece sectional construction whilst the platform may comprise three pieces connected by eight bolts, the frames being mounted on the end panels as a preliminary operation. The unit is designed for loading from the top by robots.
