PURPOSE:To prevent the regeneration until an engine is sufficiently warmed up, by providing a timer for initiating its time-counting from the time of starting of the engine, and as well by holding a trap regenerating burner in its nonoperating condition for a predetermined time from the starting of the engine in accordance with this timer. CONSTITUTION:A timer 30 in a control device 13 initiates its time-counting, simultaneously with the establishing of the running condition of an engine. The timer 30 does not issue a detection initiating signal until a predetermined time tO is elapsed so that the condition of a trap 4 is not detected even if it is in its regenerative period, and accordingly, a burner 5 will not actuates. That is, during the period by which the time tO for sufficiently warming up the exhaust system is not elapsed after starting of an engine, the burner 5 does not operate even if the trap 4 is in its regenerative period.
