The hoist is used to carry a workman's basket across the face of a building to permit maintenance, and is driven by a reversable electric motor with a magnetic brake which operates if the electric current fails. - The basket is wound up and down on chains hanging over the face of the building, by the rotation of the motor which meshes with the chains. The motor and drive train are pivoted from the base of the basket by a beam which has a counterweight to balance the total weight and to maintain the basket in a generally horizontal plane. A microswitch above the arm switches off the motor if the beam tilts excessively due, for example, to overloading of the basket.(0/3)
