The invention concerns a procedure for the production of moulding powder, usually cover powder, particularly for steel moulded goods. The moulding powder, usually cover powder, consists of at least a moulding component, and preferably also of a fluxing agent, and takes the form of, more or less, spherical hollow bodies. A fine grained output material, such as a possible mixture of fine grained moulding powder component and the fluxing agent, is used during production; whereby the output material is silted up, and is preferably agitated with a yeast source, when the mixture of silted up output material and the yeast source then expands. The invention also provides, according to this a procedure, the production of moulding powder where the individual hollow bodies in the moulding powder display a fine-grain value, possibly a carbon carrier, with a grain size of preferably less than 20 u - soot for example.
