An instrument for percutaneously extracting stones from the urinary tract or the bile ducts of a patient consists of a basket A which is open at the front and comprises a number of resilient arms 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. The basket can be kept collapsed in a catheter when the latter is passed forward to the stone. When the basket is pushed out, it opens for the purpose of capturing the stone.
