A flat cathode ray tube comprises an evacuated envelope having a transparent flat bottom; a fluorescent target on the inner flat surface; an electron gun laterally spaced from the target, emitting an electron beam parallel with the flat surface; and three deflectors for the electron beam providing horizontal and vertical scanning and beam focusing. The deflectors comprise the target and an opposed electrode in the envelope, causing beam passing between them, connected with the opposed electrode of the electron gun anode respectively, with a vertical deflection signal applied to plates to deflect the beam.
