In a doctor device with a doctor roll for applicator devices to coat liquid, foam or pasty media onto webs of material, the doctor roll is to be stabilised by a guide which consists of devices mechanically stronger than the doctor roll itself. This guide positively surrounds the upper region of the doctor roll situated in front of a media pouring basin, preferably over more than 180 DEG . It consists of an elongate body or of parts in which the hollow recess of the doctor roll is made, the body tapering downwards, preferably uniformly, and ending in a lip. This guide (3) can be connected to a carrier, preferably a crossmember (4), into which pressure-reinforcing elements (9), such as fluids, iron bars, balls, loose material or the like, can be introduced. The entire unit consists at least of the doctor roll and guide (3), but preferably also with the cross member (4), and bears with pressure against the coating surface, preferably the inner cylindrical surface of a stencil (2), or on the article.
