Process for producing self-supporting perforated carriers from a mat or a fabric of heat-shrinkable plastics filament, especially for the plates in electrical lead accumulators and carriers produced according to the process
Self-supporting perforated carriers, especially for the plates of electrical accumulators, consisting of tubes, multiple tube sheaths or sleeves of fabric of thermally shrinkable synthetic filament. The shrinkage was previously effected by thermal convection, which results in the partial shortening of the macromolecule. The invention produces shrinkage requiring a minimum of energy with maximum absorption with uniform and thorough heating of the filament with infrared rays with a limited spectrum of wavelengths. A minimum shortening of the molecule length and a saving of time, space and energy are obtained with this and a product with perfect and stable mechanical and chemical properties is produced.
